ATUR FINAL REPORT & TOOLS
The ATUR Water Reliability Project Report includes:
- Summary of natural water balances in Arizona's groundwater basins and implications of climate change for future in-state water supplies
- Suitability analyses and digital maps of possible locations for enhanced recharge
- Opportunities to capture water currently lost to evaporation
- Management options in multiple landscapes for capturing and recharging water
- Description of the processes and tools that can be used to strategically prioritize the areas where recharge potential can be enhanced
- Links to data, tools and models used in analyses
- Identification of potential partnerships with stakeholders and land management agencies
- Evidence, model output and literature supporting the work of this project
- Data gaps and future research needs
Tools for Water Managers & Decision Makers include:
- Decision Support Framework: This flow-chart based tool guides land and water managers through the questions and processes needed to identify possible capture and recharge opportunities and determine whether recharge in a given location warrants site-specific investigations.
- DSF Interactive StoryMap Guide: This resource offers another more interactive guide to using the Decision Support Framework.
- Groundwater Basin Profiles: ATUR researchers have developed individual water supply profiles for each of the state’s 51 groundwater basins. The profiles highlight key information about the basins such as current and estimated future annual precipitation, recharge, runoff, and temperatures, focused on the supply side of the water balance – how much water might be available for capture and recharge. They also include maps that show areas of highest recharge potential within each basin, and projections of future water supply conditions. These are a foundation for future work in specific basins.
- Recharge Opportunities Matrix: There is a broad range of capture and recharge options that can be and have been utilized across the diverse landscapes of Arizona. The Matrix lists these approaches and the opportunities, limitations, and environmental implications for each.
