The impacts of climate change on urban systems and the built environment include public health, economic development, infrastructure, transportation, water resources, energy production, biodiversity, energy production, disaster management, food security, and additional stresses to the most vulnerable populations. Addressing these impacts in the context of continued urbanization and development of cities across the world is one of the grand challenges of the 21st century. The UA has interdisciplinary experts with backgrounds in climate science, engineering, planning, geography, public policy, public health, architecture, and landscape architecture, among others, working together to address climate adaptation challenges and opportunities in the Southwest.
