How has drought in California affected rural communities in the state’s Central Valley? Ph.D. candidate Christina Greene has received a $95,000 USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture grant to examine impacts in the economically disadvantaged San Joaquin Valley, where most community members work in agriculture, migrating seasonally or remaining year-round. The research is intended to develop more useful indicators of the social impacts of drought that will help in the development of policies to alleviate them.
