CCASS is helping to organize and implement a study, sponsored by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and Arizona state and southern Arizona agencies, to evaluate the impacts of future changes in water supplies and demands in the Lower Santa Cruz Basin through 2060. This is the first water resources study to incorporate the effects of climate change on regional water supplies and local riparian areas.
The study’s goal is to identify where physical water resources are needed to balance supplies and demands for municipal, tribal, industrial, agricultural and environmental sectors. Climate, surface water and groundwater models are being used to evaluate impacts on future water availability. Study partners and the public are helping to identify alternatives, both structural and non-structural, to adapt to these impacts.
