The Department of Environmental Science (ENVS) and the Center for Climate Adaptation Science and Solutions (CCASS) invite all UArizona students to join a lunch with visiting speaker Dr. Jay Famiglietti, Global Futures Professor in the School of Sustainability at Arizona State University (ASU). The lunch will take place on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 from 12 – 1:15 pm AZ in ENR2, room N604. Dr. Famiglietti will also be giving a talk as part of the ENVS Colloquium on Monday, January 29 from 3-4 pm in Marley 230 and on Zoom. More info about the ENVS Colloquium can be found here.

About Dr. Famiglietti: Jay Famiglietti is a hydrologist, a Global Futures Professor at Arizona State University, and Chief Scientist of the Arizona Water Innovation Initiative. He is Executive Director Emeritus of the Global Institute for Water Security at the University of Saskatchewan, where he held the Canada 150 Research Chair in Hydrology and Remote Sensing. Famiglietti is also the former Senior Water Scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and he held faculty positions at UC Irvine and UT Austin.  His research group uses satellites to track how freshwater availability is changing around the globe. They pioneered the methods to detect groundwater depletion from space.  A fellow of the American Geophysical Union, Geological Society of America, and recipient of AGU's Hydrological Sciences Award, he is committed to science communication, and to cross-sectoral advising on water security issues.
